WELCOME 6TH GRADERS TO MS. ROCHA’S 

ART CLASS

       Dear Students and Parents,

       Welcome to the beginning of a new and exciting semester in my class! Throughout the school year, we will be learning and developing various artistic techniques by exploring through a variety of materials and concepts. Students will experience critiquing and responding to works of art in history as well as their own work and the work of their peers. I would like to create a classroom atmosphere that encourages the exchange of ideas between the teacher, student, and parents.

Studio Rules and Consequences:

 All rules, consequence, and procedures will be discussed in further detail in class. These rules and procedures are to ensure a safe learning environment. Project  specific rules and procedures may come up during the semester/ year.

Rules:

  •   I will respect my classmates and the teacher
  •  I will raise my hand when I wish to speak and listen to others when speaking
  •   I will respect the classroom equipment and supplies
  •   I will clean up my area before the end of class
  •   I will try my best on all projects
  •  I will be open-minded

Consequences:

  •  Warning
  •  Teacher-student conference
  •    Phone call home
  •   Lunch Detention
  •  After school detention

Grading:

80% of the students’ grade is based on projects and 20% based on participation.

Students will be graded on the following:

  • Effort
  •  Following assignment procedures
  •  Thinking outside of the box
  • Craftsmanship/Skills
  • Participation/Conduct (this includes being prepared, cleaning up, following directions, and overall behavior).

  If a student is absent for any reason he/she is responsible for finding out any missed work and how to prepare for the following class. All work must be made up. IF a student is required to miss a class for personal or academic reasons, I would like to be aware ahead of time.

Procedures:

Before the bell:

  •   Place all of your belongings underneath your seat on the shelf provided. There should be nothing on the floor or table.
  •  Take out the table folder.
  •   Look at the board for any directions or announcements.
  • Sit quietly and wait for instruction if no directions are written.

During class:

  • Listen carefully to the teacher’s instruction.
  •  Raise your hand if you wise to speak and listen when others are speaking.
  • Gather materials quickly and quietly.
  • Write your name and period on all artwork!!! (Otherwise it will be a zero)
  • Respect all classroom materials and studio property.
  • Take only the materials you need, do not be wasteful.
  •  You are responsible for your artwork. If your project is lost or damages it is your responsibility.
  • If you need to leave the art studio, you must have permission and request a pass.
  • If you are late to the studio, you must have a pass.

Cleanup:

  • Stop working and listen for directions.
  • Clean and return materials to their home.
  •  Return your projects to the table folder or its shelf.
  • Sponge and dry off your table and chair if needed.
  •  Check the floor for any dropped materials.
  •  Sit quietly and wait for instruction or class closure from the teacher.
  •  When the bell rings you may gather your belongings and proceed to your next class. Do not line up at the door before the bell rings.
